Year 3

Welcome to Year 3

Autumn Term

This term we will be reading Dick King-Smith's novel "The Hodgeheg" about a hedgehog who is trying to find out how to cross the road.  We will do several pieces of writing about the novel, including setting and character descriptions and our own stories.

In Maths, we will be concentrating on place value and addition/subtraction.  In Year 3, we will learn to work with three digit numbers, understanding the value of each digit and using this knowledge to help with our calculation skills.

Our topic across the whole Autumn term will be the Ancient Egyptians.  We will research life in Ancient Egypt, the Pyramids, Egyptian hieroglyphic writing and, of course, Mummies!  The highlight of the topic will be our trip to see some real Egyptian Mummies at the British Museum.  In Science, we will be learning about humans, including healthy eating and the human body.  In RE, our topic is Creation and we will be discussing what Christians can learn from the Creation story in the Bible.  In ICT, we are learning to code using our digital platform, Purple Mash.   PE days will be Wednesdays and Fridays and we will have both gymnastics and dance lessons.

Monday 8th October: Year 3 Class trip to the British Museum

Tuesday 16th October/Thursday 18th October:  Parents' consultation evenings.   Please note that these dates may be slightly different to other classes in the school.
